What is the swim like?- Athletes will start on the same beach of Bloomington at Clinton Lake. Athletes will swim one rectangular lap counter-clockwise before returning to the beach. Athletes will then have a short 50 meter run to the transition. Water is clean, fresh lake water.
What is the bike course like?- Athletes will leave the park grounds on Clinton Lake and cover the southwestern roads of Douglas County. Most of the course is known to locals as "The Iron Cross." The "Iron-Cross" bike course is a challenging and exciting bike course! Athletes can expect long, winding, flat stretches matched with steep challenging hills offering lake front views. The bike course is a single loop course that will intersect the "Iron-Cross" section of 458 & 1023 roads four times offering a spectator friendly course. Athletes will return to the park grounds of Bloomington Beach at Clinton Lake for the bike to run transition.
What is the Run course like?- The two-lap run course will consist of asphalt roads and trails throughout Clinton Park. Athletes will travel through the town of Clinton and the campgrounds of Bloomington West. The run begins with a one mile gradual climb leaving the transition followed by mostly flat miles on asphalt. The final mile to the finish line is downhill leading to a picturesque finish line located at Bloomington Beach.
How can I enter the race?
Can I change my entry from an individual to a relay team?
I just found out, that I will not be able to race. Can I get a refund or transfer my entry to next year's race.- Sorry, NO refunds or transfers will be allowed for Ironman 70.3 Kansas.
Will wet suits be allowed?- We expect the water temperature to be in the low 70's for the race. Bring your wet suit as we expect you to be able to wear it for the race.
What are the cutoff times?- Course Cutoff Times
You will need to complete each leg of the course within the designated cutoff time listed below, or you will be disqualified from the race.
Swim: 1-hour & 15-minutes from the start of the last swim wave.
Bike: 5-hours & 15-minutes from the start of the last swim wave.
Run: 8-hours from the start of the last swim wave.
If for any reason you are unable to complete the event, you must report to the timing tent (located at the finish line) and turn in your ChampionChip. This is mandatory for your safety and for the peace of mind for your friends and family.
If I'm signed up for the race, can I show up on race day to race?- NO - Everyone must pick-up their race packet on Friday or Saturday at the exposition. Everyone must also place their bike into the transition area on Saturday for the race on Sunday!
Can I use a recumbent bike?
What wave will I start in for the swim?- The swim waves will be announced on race weekend. You will start with your age-group and sex. Clydesdales/Athenas will start in their age-groups.
How can I purchase race merchandise?- We will have race merchandise for sale on the web site before the race, at the event and after the event on our web site.
What airport should I fly into to get to Lawrence, Kansas- Kansas City! The KC airport is only a 45 min. drive from Lawrence.
